About Us

Establishment

The School was established in January 2009. In June 2009, the school was registered with the Tanzanian Ministry of Education and Vocational Training (Reg No S.4174) as well as National Examination Council of Tanzania (NECTA - Examination Index No S.2178). The School opened it doors to students in April 2009, by enrolling Form five (V) students and in January 2010 enrolled its first Form one (I) students. The school has grown rapidly from a beginning enrollment of six (6) students in April 2009 to over 650 students today.

The construction of the school started in December 2007 as a result of Geita Secondary School the only private high school in the district which owned by the Board of Trustees for Private School in Mwanza region. The school was taken over by Tanzania Government in January 2007, after the collapse of the board of trustees. The took over of the school created a problem for students who are graduating in primary and secondary school and failed to be selected in Government schools. In order to alleviate the problem of Geita district having no private schools to accommodate students who fail to be selected in government high school, the group of Geita native who graduated at Geita Secondary School organized a meeting in Dar es Salaam. The resolution of the meeting held was to formulate Golden Ridge Education Trust Fund (GRETF) to replace the Board of Trustees for Private School in Mwanza region.

The school is managed by dedicated professional staff under the auspices of the GRETF Board of Directors and the school board and dependent solely on fees and contributions from patrons and donors.

GRETF focuses on education developments in Geita - Mwanza and Tanzania at large. The trust is committed to playing an active role in the transformation of Tanzania education. The GRETF intends to provide education to meet the present requirement of both parents and children of Geita to enable the children compete effectively for the meager employment in mining and other sector around and other opportunities for self – employment with self – confidence to meet personal and industrial proficiency

The GRETF Board of directors is a committed group of people, who are dedicated to the growth and development of education in Tanzania.  The Government of Tanzania has made poverty-reducing economic development its first priority, and recognizes that improving Tanzania education system will have clear benefits in terms of increased productivity, improved health, and poverty eradication.

MESSAGE

FROM THE DIRECTOR

I have always based the culture here at Golden Ridge on the ideas of respect and understanding coupled with clear boundaries. Given the opportunity, I believe that most individuals will realize their full potential. It has been a privilege over the years to see teenagers and families find their confidence again, grow together and then move on with their lives.
